Physicians
who filed a HIPAA compliance plan with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services by October 15 were granted a one-year extension on HIPAA’s electronic
transactions and code sets rule only. This extension does not apply to the
privacy and security rules. All entities covered by HIPAA must comply with the
privacy and security rules by April 14, 2003.
