California Physician Corps Loan Repayment Program Begins Jan. 1

California Physician Corps Bill Passes Key Senate Committee

Applications are now available for the California Physician Corps (CPC) Loan Repayment Program. CPC was created by CMA-sponsored AB 982.

In addition to earning a salary, physicians selected for the program will be eligible for medical school loan repayment grants of up to $105,000 in exchange for a three-year service commitment in a medically underserved area of the state. The Medical Board of California has committed $3 million over the next three years to fund 28 CPC grants.

The new law requires that most participants be selected from the specialty areas of family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology; however, up to 20 percent of the participants may be selected from other specialty areas.

Applications are due by April 11. The first series of program participants will be announced in June. Click here to download an application.
