Fighting Back:
Protecting Medical Staff Self Governance
As regular readers know,
the medical staff at Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) in Ventura is involved
in a contentious legal battle with its hospital administration over medical
staff self-governance. In April, the medical staff filed a lawsuit in an
effort to end the hospital administration's all-out assault on medical staff
autonomy. The result of this case will affect hospitals throughout California
and across the country.
CMA sent a team to Ventura
last year to report on the struggle at CMH. CMA has produced a 12-minute
video on what they found, including in-depth interviews with local physicians.
The video was widely praised when shown at AMA's interim meeting in December.
