The Schiavo case underscores the importance of putting in writing your wishes about end-of-life care. In California, Advance Health Care Directives are the legally recognized format for so-called “living wills.” CMA has for years encouraged physicians to discuss advance directives with their patients and to keep a supply of forms in their office for patient use.

CMA publishes an Advance Health Care Directive Kit, available in both English and Spanish, which includes an Advance Health Care Directive form and answers many of the most frequently asked questions about this issue.

Advance Health Care Directive Kits can be purchased for $5 each in the CMA Bookstore. In the past week, public interest and visits to the CMA website have soared.
